John Canaday and Zigrosser worked together at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Zigrosser put Canaday forward for membership in the Philadelphia Art Alliance. Zigrosser admired Canaday's easy and accurate writing on American art, both in his books and in his column for the New York Times. The correspondence reflects their friendship as well as their professional ties. A letter of condolence was written by Katherine Canaday.
